Henna Recipe One
Ingredients:
  • 50 grams Packet Mehendhi/Henna Powder
  • 4 Teabags
  • 1 Tablespoon Coffee
  • 4 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Henna Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Eucalyptus Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Clove Oil
  • 4 pints water
  • Handful of Cloves
  • 1 Packet of Tamarind (Imbli approx 200gm)
Tamarind is available in two forms - either paste or root. If it’s in paste form, use 6 tablespoons and if in root form, use the whole packet.
Method:
  1. Add the water, tea, coffee, cloves, tamarind, sugar and brew for about three hours on low heat or until the seeds and root separate from the tamarind. Leave to cool and strain through a 20 denier pop sock/stocking. This will allow all the liquid to strain through without any debris. Keep the liquid and throw away the rest.
  2. Put mehendhi powder into a clear glass bowl. Add all the oils. Slowly start adding the liquid mixture. Mix and beat well ensuring there are no lumps or powder left giving you a smooth mixture. The henna paste should be toothpaste or stirred yoghurt consistency.
  3. Cover the paste with cling film/saran wrap/plastic wrap and leave sitting at room temperature for a minimum of 8-12 hours so that all the ingredients can fuse together. Check the consistency of the mixture and add more liquid if required.
  4. Now you are ready to put the henna paste into a plastic cone.
  5. Any leftover liquid can be stored for up to 30 days in the fridge or 6 – 12 months in the freezer. Place liquid into an ice cube tray so that you use what you need. You can’t re-freeze it. Once frozen, transfer into an air tight container or freezer bag. If the contents get freezer burn, please discard and make a fresh batch.
